If your school has been making strides towards reducing their environmental impact and educating students and staff about sustainability, you should consider applying for the U.S. Department of Education’s Green Ribbon School Award. The award recognizes schools that have made progress towards reducing their environmental impact and costs, improving the health and wellness of schools, and providing effective environmental sustainability literacy. The application cycle for 2013-2014 is open until December 27, 2013. Schools that wish to be nominated should contact their state education agency for application deadlines and more information. The winners will be celebrated next July at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Schools in California can check out the California Department of Education’s page for more information. For other states, check out the U.S. Department of Education’s page to learn more about the award and how to apply.
