Kelly Vlahakis-Hanks is the President and CEO of Earth Friendly Products, maker of ECOS laundry detergent and over 200 other environmentally friendly cleaners made with plant-based ingredients. As a primary manufacturer with five facilities across the U.S., Earth Friendly Products has received many awards for its innovations in safer green chemistry, including the U.S. EPA’s coveted Safer Choice Partner of the Year award.
Kelly has been recognized for her highly effective leadership and influential voice in the green movement and in corporate social responsibility. She is outspoken in her commitment to sustainability in her products, her facilities, and her employment practices. Under Kelly’s leadership, Earth Friendly Products achieved carbon neutrality at all five of its manufacturing facilities in 2013 through a series of major sustainability initiatives, including the switch to 100% renewable electricity. She has been instrumental in making Earth Friendly Products a model for green business practices and a leader in the green cleaning products market.
Kelly was a leading voice in the formation of the Sustainability Consortium and has served as a key strategic advisor to Walmart’s sustainability and conservation efforts. She sits on several boards, including Grades of Green, the American Sustainable Business Council and the Environmental Media Association.
A graduate of UCLA and Chapman University Argyros School of Business and Economics, Kelly held earlier positions as a public relations executive and a nonprofit organization director before joining Earth Friendly Products in 2003. She was promoted to Executive Vice President in 2009 and was responsible for opening five new manufacturing facilities and overseeing global sales in 60 countries.
Kelly has been featured on CNN, ABC News, FOX News, NBC News, Bloomberg and Wall Street Journal Marketwatch and in the Los Angeles Times, the Orange County Register and the Orange County Business Journal. In 2014 she was named a “Global Woman of the Year” at the Global Women’s Conference.
As a mom and a CEO, Kelly is passionate about creating a healthy environment for our children and teaching them the importance of protecting the health of our planet. She has been a proud supporter of Grades of Green and the Youth Corps for several years and is inspired by the transformational programs that Grades of Green brings to hundreds of schools and and thousands of students across the country. She believes that we are all responsible for giving our children the tools they need to become the environmental stewards of tomorrow.
