Youth Corps students celebrated America Recycles Day by helping make TEDx Manhattan Beach a zero waste event by educating guests how to sort their waste properly. At the beginning of lunchtime, the Youth Corps students gave a presentation explaining the benefits of the 3R’s, why reducing waste is so important, and how guests could make a difference by sorting their lunchtime waste at the event. As guests finished their meals, they were invited to visit any of the 12 sorting stations located at the venue, which were monitored by Youth Corps students who educated guests on how to sort their waste and answered any questions about recycling and composting. At the conclusion of lunch, all of the cardboard trays, bottles and cans were recycled, and all of the food waste was composted resulting in only 11 bags of trash being produced by all of the attendees. Thank you TEDx for helping make your event zero waste!
