Have you ever thought about what happens to all of those one-time use graduation gowns after the 90 minute ceremony? They usually end up in the trash. Seth, founder of Greener Grads, took this into consideration. He realized that for the past 25 years, these graduation gowns have been made from polyester, which is constructed out of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the same chemical compound used to make plastic water bottles. PET does not fully decompose; therefore, can be in our landfills for thousands of years! When considering the manufacturing process, how briefly the gowns are worn, and the potential environmental impact the chemicals could cause, Seth decided to take action. He created an organization called Green Grads. Greener Grads works hard to recover, repurpose, and re-use graduation gowns. You can help Seth reduce the waste of producing new gowns and breathe new life into old gowns! To find out more and get involved, click here.
