In March 2011, the State of California began preparation of a statewide Pest Environmental Impact Report (PEIR). The approval of PEIR could result in advance approval for the state to spray pesticides in our communities and on our food whenever they want, for any insect they consider a threat, anywhere in the state, for years into the future.
Pesticides are associated with health disorders, where children are particularly vulnerable because of their small size, rapidly developing bodies and behaviors that increase their exposure. Grades of Green’s [de]tox Thursday’s, Green Cleaning Supplies, and Pesticide Reduction include ways to reduce pesticides and chemicals at schools to make a more sustainable school and a healthier learning environment. To find out more information on PEIR and how to become involved in the opposition, see Moms Advocating Sustainability.
