Three Santa Monica schools who all participated in Grades of Green’s 2013-14 Trash Free Lunch Challenge presented the positive environmental change they made at their schools this year to the Santa Monica City Council. The Santa Monica schools were McKinley Elementary, Franklin Elementary, and Grant Elementary who collectively diverted 8,460 bags of trash or about 211,500 pounds from the landfill. These schools made environmental awareness videos, created Green Teams, started composting programs, and promoted packing trash free lunches.
