Silver Spur 3rd grader and Grades of Green Youth Corps student, Katherine, organized an eco-packed and fun filled lunchtime Earth Day Festival at her school this year. First, her school kicked off a campus-wide recycling program on Earth Day. They also banned spork packages and replaced them with individual fork and napkin dispensers. There were also several lunchtime eco-activities for all students to participate in, including making a reusable bag out of old t-shirts donated by the local high school, planting seeds in the garden, creating non-toxic all purpose green cleaners for each classroom, and a chandelier made out of recyclable materials that students brought from home. Katherine also created a beautiful mural using bottle caps that will now be displayed at the school. Katherine even got her event in the PV News. Congratulations Katherine on such a successful Earth Day Festival at your school!
