Students at the Manhattan Beach Middle School (MBMS) got up close and personal with their lunchtime trash. The students sorted through 446 pounds of trash to see what is really trash versus recyclable or compostable. After learning about what could be recycled or composted, MBMS was able to reduce their trash by 40%! Through Grades of Green’s partnership with Waste Management and the Beach Cities Health District, MBMS will set up a permanent sorting system so the school can divert even more waste from the landfill. Check out this video of the dumpster diving that was shown at TEDx Manhattan Beach this year! The students were also recognized in their schools newsletter, Wednesday Wave and local paper, The Beach Reporter.
