PRESIDENT’S ENVIRONMENTAL YOUTH AWARD

Justin from the Parallel Projects received the EPA’s “President’s Environmental Youth Award.” He has created a global network of passionate students wanting to make a difference by reducing their waste through upcycling. Last year, Justin and his friend Perise in Cameroon transformed nearly 8,000 plastic bottles into useful projects! For all their hard work and impact, Justin and the Parallel Projects were also the recipients of one of the Eco-Grants from our last campaign!

We hope that you all stay safe and sustainable!

One of Grades of Green’s rock star Youth Corps students, Joshua, was honored as a recipient of the 2015 President’s Environmental Youth Award! In August 2016 Joshua flew to Washington D.C. to accept the award at the Presidential Environmental Education Awards Ceremony along with a select group of student awardees from across the country.  The ceremony included speeches from Dr. John Holdren, Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office of Science, Technology Policy, Administrator Gina McCarthy, United States Environmental Protection Agency, and Secretary John King with the United States Department of Education.  Joshua received his award for his 2014-15 Youth Corps Eco-Leadership project; a comprehensive school wide water reduction campaign. This week the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that Grades of Green’s very own Youth Corps member, Joshua C., was selected to receive the 2015 President’s Environmental Youth Award! Joshua received this prestigious award based on his dedication to educating others on how they can conserve water.  During his fifth grade year at Meadows Elementary, Joshua led a school wide water reduction campaign, which included classroom presentations to inform students on how to save water, increasing recycling of water bottles on campus and encouraging students to bring reusable bottles, and even creating an Earth Library in his school! This national award is presented annually, and Joshua is the sole recipient for all k-5 applicants in his region.  Congratulations to Joshua, keep up the great work!
