Director of Social Entrepreneurship at Westside Neighborhood School

John has had the good fortune to work with incredible schools in the local area and around the country on topics ranging from design thinking, personalized learning and maker education, to project-based learning and the integration of mobile devices in the classroom.

He believes authentic learning happens when we give students the appropriate tools and physical environment to foster curiosity, find purpose, and allow for agency in their work.

His role as a consultant is to help organizations work through the challenges and opportunities presented by new technologies and the latest research in teaching and learning.

When not consulting, John is the Director of Social Entrepreneurship at Westside Neighborhood School, in Los Angeles, where he continues to teach classes at the middle school level. John also serves as an advisory board member for the reDiscover Center, whose mission is to promote resource conservation, creativity, and community engagement through material reuse.

In 2020, John co-founded LumenSparQ Inc., a nonprofit organization whose mission is to spotlight and support local heroes in education
