Hi, everyone! My name is Myia Williams, and I’m a Data and Technology Fellow with Grades of Green. I graduated with my B.S. in Applied Psychology, and I currently attend Pepperdine University, where I’m earning my Master’s in Clinical Psychology. I’m also completing certifications and an Associate’s degree in Environmental Science at West Los Angeles College. My professional interests waver just as much as my personal hobbies, but I’m deeply invested and love every subject I study.
So far, within my fellowship, I’ve worked on editing and creating content for Grades of Green’s social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram) and participated in web design/maintenance, providing feedback for their current interface and content while also organizing the media content of the 2025 Verte Gala. In addition, I was able to support them in setting up for the 2025 Verte Gala as well as producing program reports. It has been an honor to hone my skillset and challenge myself with this organization, gaining newer skills within the sustainability industry and engaging in a diverse set of roles. I look forward to continuing to enhance my abilities with GoG as I reach the end of my program.
Career and Passions in Sustainability
Earlier in my professional/academic career, I deeply appreciated the science and fun facts related to agriculture. Although I’ve hardly worked in a field and/or garden, I’ve read several books that touch on urban sustainability and indoor planting. It’s a very interesting topic and makes for a unique string of personal projects. I genuinely believe there’s an opportunity to implement my education and passions into the community where I grew up, South Los Angeles, and I hope to bring more greenery to the city.
Beyond indoor planting, I love the idea of practicing sustainability in my everyday life. For example, I’ve taken several classes to practice sewing and knitting, to preserve fabric, and to reduce overconsumption. For the past 5 years, I’ve found value in underbuying, maximizing what I have, and buying with intention. I look forward to supporting Grades of Green in spreading awareness about sustainability and the many ways you can support the movement towards a better climate as well!
